MEPS-HC HPB Abstraction Named as a 2021 FedHealthIT Innovation

FedHealthIT published its list of 7th Annual FedHealthIT Innovation Award winners. Among those named was SoftDev’s prime effort for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey – Household Component Health Policy Booklet (MEPS-HC HPB) Abstraction contract. The FedHealth IT Innovation award recognizes and honors the Federal Health technology and consulting community by celebrating programs nominated and selected by their peers for driving innovation and results across the Department of Veterans Affairs, Military Health, Health and Human Services, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The database enables AHRQ to gain insights relevant to the health care choices available to all Americans and the costs associated therein, providing value across health-oriented federal and state programs as they shape policy decisions going forward. Furthermore, as a result of this work, AHRQ has a heightened understanding of the potential for use of cognitive services for automation and data services within its and other agencies’ IT portfolios. The tool developed by SoftDev and its success was also featured at the recent 2021 FedCASIC event sponsored by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau. SoftDev Announces ESRD Help Desk – HUBZone Contract Award

SoftDev continues to prove its placement as the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Program data quality expert with a competitive HUBZone award for the CMS ESRD Help Desk contract. This effort brings SoftDev’s ESRD expertise to the Center for Medicare (CM), supporting CM in its data quality interests. With streamlined processes and the added benefit of cognitive solutions, SoftDev is excited to bring innovative ideas forward for the ongoing benefit of the ESRD Program across the nation.  “SoftDev is invested in making sure the ESRD community has what it needs – from every perspective. With AI and ML in our toolset, we can operate at lightning speed without compromising on quality. This is an exciting time for me, personally, and for my team. I could not be prouder of what we have achieved. The SoftDev team has continued to demonstrate its creativity with new ideas and innovations that serve the interests of CMS, , providers, and patients tackling kidney disease,” stated Robin Kaiser, President at SoftDev.

The ESRD Help Desk supports CM’s mission by providing case management services to Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans (MAPDs) that ensure proper payment under the ESRD Program. The ESRD Program continues to account for a significant portion of the Medicare budget, approximately 7% of the Medicare fee-for-service spending despite representing less than 1% of the total Medicare population. At the same time, ESRD Patient populations are increasing by 5% and the number of dialysis providers increase by almost 7% annually, impacting the burden of data submissions for dialysis providers to increase proportionally. Given these complicating factors, CM requires clear confidence in that ability to reconcile discrepancies and ensure proper payments are made through the ESRD Help Desk.
