2018 FedHealthIT Innovation Award Winner – CMS CROWN Data Discrepancy Support (CDDS)
About the Award – The FedHealthIT Innovation Awards recognize 25 of the top Federal Health leaders. Nominated and chosen by their peers, the awardees stand out from the rest based on their willingness to take on achievable risk, and more importantly, to deliver real results in support of their mission.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) CROWN Data Discrepancy Support (CDDS) program was conceived in 2010 as an unsolicited proposal/white paper developed by SoftDev Incorporated (SoftDev) to improve data quality and reduce data discrepancies in electronic data submissions to the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Program’s CROWNWeb system. CDDS is managed by CMS’ Center for Clinical Standards and Quality (CCSQ) under the leadership of Janis Grady, the CDDS COR.
CDDS focuses on innovative data approaches to solve real-world problems. For example, flooding and wildfire disasters in 2017 instigated a temporary (6-month) government policy change for dialysis facilities located within disaster areas. The policy change was made just weeks before a data submission period ended. CDDS had prototype systems in place in three days’ time and presenting fully accurate, quality and policy conforming data exhibits prior to the conclusion of the next data submission period. CMS, patients and providers directly benefit from the accurate, complete, and timely data that CDDS provides through our data quality and governance efforts and our reporting. In 2017, our efforts supported continuity of data for timely, actionable insights impacting affected beneficiaries. Our program efforts consistently produce savings for Medicare (over $40M in recovered revenues to date), enhance continuity of care for patients, and reduce provider burden.
SoftDev was awarded the CDDS contract as a HUBZone set-aside sole source in 2010 and has performed work as the sole contractor on the project since that time.
